FWT Ltd has over 20 years experience of installing and maintaining spring catchment systems. Springs are a natural source of underground water from the water table or aquifer and they have historically been used for water supplies. ‘Catching’ a spring is an age-old skill requiring a high degree of expertise and experience; water will always find the easiest point of escape from the ground and care has to be taken when ‘catching’ a spring not to divert the flow.
We capture the spring at the point it rises to the surface collecting the water in a specially prepared collection chamber. In line with the regulations the chamber has to be constructed to prevent contamination from surface run off and vermin. From the collection chamber the water then feeds into a storage tank that supplies the water to the point of use. The excess water is then run via a protected overflow out of the tank either to a drain or prepared watercourse.
You are able to abstract up to 20,000 litres (20m³) of water a day from a spring supply without an abstraction licence. FWT install, service and maintain spring supplies for a wide range of clients including, but not limited to, farmers, golf courses, food preparation and other commercial sites, private estates, domestic properties and public houses.

Spring supplies generally cost less than boreholes to install and maintain. The flow from a spring may vary in accordance with the water table and seasons, therefore it is important to have an idea of the yield of the spring throughout the year. Most existing spring systems either supply the property direct with no storage or, once caught, are stored in a tank, which then supplies the property under gravity or via a pump.

Underground potable water storage tank

Partially buried potable WRAS approved water storage tank, a stone wall is often built around the tank to blend with the surroundings.

Surface water storage tanks are the most cost efficient way of storing water for your requirements. All our tanks are WRAS approved for potable water systems.

This was NOT installed by FWT. The tank is not of potable water quality so the plastic taste may get into the water. The lid is not sealed allowing for contamination.

If space is limited lay flat or coffin tanks can be used to store water, again these are WRAS approved for potable water supplies. Depending upon the layout of the system additional booster pumps are often required to provide a pressurised supply.
